The West Virginia Roughriders have signed quarterback Jarrett Brown for the 2019 season, the team announced on Thursday, November 8th, 2018.
Jarrett Brown, a former starting quarterback for the WVU Mountaineers in 2009, spent the first couple years of his college career as a Mountaineer under the then Heisman candidate quarterback and WVU legend Pat White, before White graduated in 2008. Brown in his senior season, and just his first full season at the helm of the Mountaineers, would go on to lead his team to the 2010 Gator Bowl against the Florida State Seminoles. After graduating from WVU, Jarrett would continue onto the NFL, spending some time with teams such as the San Francisco 49'ers, Cleveland Browns, and the Indianapolis Colts. After his time in the NFL, Jarrett Brown was brought on by the CFL's (Canadian Football League) BC Lions as their backup quarterback for the entirety of their 2013 season. Brown most recently though, before signing wth the West Virginia Roughriders, played arena football with the Spokane Shock in the AFL (Arena Football League).
With the addition of such a multifaceted talent such as Jarrett Brown, West Virginia Roughriders Player Personnel Director, Andrew Germann, describes what signing Brown means to the team going forward, "Jarrett has all of the physical tools and attributes to excel at this level. He's been successful at what he does at the various levels of football and Gregg and I are very excited to have him in a Roughrider uniform." Along with Player Personnel Director Germann, West Virginia Roughriders Owner/GM, Gregg Fornario, is also excited to have acquired such a talent in the quarterback position as well as a former Mountaineer, "We are happy to have a QB who not only played for the Mountaineers but also on other professional stages of football such as the NFL, CFL, and of course the AFL". Fornario would go onto say "We are honored to provide the opportunity to certain athletes such as Jarrett Brown, to perform once again, in front of the very fans that supported them from the start here in the Ohio Valley."
